A Tale Of J Blood Match At Work

On the 10th of March 2021, we received an Instagram DM on our handle @jdinitiatives1 from someone needing a blood donor for a 9-year-old who had been raped.

To say we were shocked is an understatement. We quickly directed the person to J Blood Match and soon after a blood donor request was made.

Chief Operating Officer of JDI, Angela Umoru who was a match accepted the request.

Deeply moved by this little girl's harrowing story, JDI took it up and shared it widely, raising 8 more blood donors for her within a few days.

As of March 16th, 2021, the recipient hadn't gone for her follow-up surgery because she had not healed enough but we were glad to learn that she was still being transfused with blood received from one of the donors who came from JDI.

This captures the value of our work. We may not be a blood bank but making it easier to link blood donors and recipients through the J Blood Match bot ensures that people like this little girl access this life-saving intervention.
